My first job as a frontend developer
It was not easy at all...
I was very excited when I got my new job. The first reason was that it was a totally new situation for me. I was almost the oldest developer regarding my ages. There were many young developers in the team and their experience were much more than mine. I decided to do everything to keep my position and to meet the expectations.
This is not React, this Angular
Allwin is a very frendly company. My boss and my collegues were very helpful to get the necessary basic knowledge to start my work. I got my notebook on the first week and I had to learn the processes of the company. I had to know some new tools like MS Teams and working in Azure. These all were new for me, because earlier I worked alone.
I was very suprised, because the first project I was involved in was an Angular project and I didn't know anything about Angular. So I had to learn Angular in order to work on some easy tasks. It was very similar to the situation in CodeCool. It was not difficult but I didn't feel myself confortable during the team meetings where I said that I had learnt all day. We had a team meeting every day and we discussed the new tasks of the project and we had to introduce our progress in our tasks. Later on when I got some small tasks, I got many helps from the senior developers if I had any problem to write my code properly. They reviewed my codes and suggested how to refactor them. I worked on this project for 3 months only. Telling the truth I couldn't learn enough about Angular but I have learnt 2 important things:
- When I worked alone I couldn't get thelp from senior developers. My experience is that I can collect many information about the Clean Code on the internet, but this is not the same situation like when an experienced developer reviews my code. It was an important point in my personal progress and this helps me today as well.
- I have learnt that flexibility is important. I mean that a good frontend developer have to learn fast. This is because of the techology range is so wide that we have to learn continuously. It is a never-ending story.
- I have learnt that the background support from the company is very important. It helped me fitting in the team and in the company structure, too.
3 month later
My bosses were satisfied with my work so they informed me that we can continue together. I was very happy for that. At the same time I was placed on a new project.
